Choir Students Set Record at ISSMA Saturday
 
For the first time in Merrillville High School history, all 39 MHS singers competing in the  State ISSMA competition won GOLD medals!  On Saturday, February 19, 39 Merrillville High School choir students proudly represented MHS in 26 events at the District Vocal and Piano Solo and Ensemble State Contest at Perry Meridian HS in Indianapolis.Twenty Division I vocal soloists who received a GOLD rating: William Akins, Taylor Carter, Russell Cole, Victoria Collins, Matthew Fayson, Kayla Greene, Melody Harris, Shaunice Holbrook, Jamaal Jackson, Kandice Nicholson, Salena Pena, Kiera Shackelford, Stormie Schilling, Valencia Smith, Patricia Spikes, ShyOra Tolbert, Mariah Trigg, Adrian Weaver, Elizabeth Whelan, Erik WhiteSix Division I vocal ensembles received GOLD ratings: Choralteens Purple (Claussen's Set Me As A Seal), Choralteens White (Mozart's Lacrymosa), MHS Seniors (Handel's Glory to God), Holbrook ensemble (He's Gone Away), and the Parker ensemble (River in Judea).
