• What is Access?
    • Access is a placement test that measures a student's abilities in four areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.
    • When students arrive in an Indiana school and their Home Language Survey indicates that they may need additional help, they are given the Access Placement Test. This is a shorter version of the yearly assessment. It is intended as a safety net to help make sure no language learners fall behind.
    • Each year, in January or February, students take their yearly Access assessment to see what improvement they have made.
    • The Access uses a six level system. Level 1.0 is the lowest and level 6.0 is the highest.
    • The expectation is that a student will grow about one level per year.
