    Kristina

    Kristina Musielak
    (English)

Everyday Mrs. Musielak creates an atmosphere that fosters positive relationships and continued learning. She is a valuable asset to Merrillville as she is the sponsor for FEA, prom, and English clinic and is a frequent volunteer at extracurricular activities.

Kristina is a pleasure to be around.  She fills our halls with a  bright spirit and always wears a smile.  She loves making a difference with her students.  She sacrifices a lot for her club kids in FEA.  She also gives a lot for the kids she tutors.

Mrs. Musielak loves her job, she is passionate about what she does and asks for nothing in return.  She is a great example of what a selfless teacher is all about.

    Draper

    Nancy Draper
    (Math)

I have frequently heard parents say how helpful Mrs. Draper is in explaining material to struggling students.

Nancy goes above and beyond the chairperson description.  She is a mentor, a mediator and advisor for both the math department and her students.  She delegates responsibilities to each member of the department, which has led to our success as a working unit.

Nancy defines what a true MHS Teacher should be, that is dedicated and loyal to Merrillville High School. She truly devotes her life to the Math Department and the progress of our school.  She is involved in various committees that promote students and teachers.

She is a teacher who does a terrific job of explaining math concepts to students.  I hear students and parents praise her for this ability.  She also demonstrates her concerns for teachers with being a former union rep and serving on the hospitality committee.

    Martin
    Chyamiah Martin
    Science

Mrs. Martin is one of the best teachers we have!! She is always trying new activities and strategies. She continually gives her students "just one more day" and never gives up on them.

Mrs. Martin always goes the extra mile for her students. She strives to make learning relevant and interesting. Students are always engaged in hands-on activities and she challenges them to expand their scientific thinking.

Mrs. Martin is one of those teachers who makes learning fun. It starts with her attitude in the classroom and in the hallway and transfers to her students. She goes above and beyond in challenging her kids to do better for themselves.

    She is a great teacher.

Sarah is a natural motivator and leader. She is dedicated to building strong relationships with her kids and pushes them in their natural talents. I don’t know her too personally but I always hear my students talking about how much she inspires them.

    Bradford

    John Bradford
    Music-

I nominated Mr. Bradford because he excels in the classroom, not only by his ensembles playing very well, but also because he freely articulates his students' needs, giving them further initiative to succeed.

Mr. Bradford communicates well with others in his department, and uses constructive criticism to his advantage.

Mr. Bradford does commit much of himself to his art and his students. He loves what he does and makes sure his students are disciplined in the classroom to make sure they perform well on stage, representing our school well and with class.

    Johnson

    Darcie Johnston
    English

I co-teach with Darcie, and I see the way that she is able to relate to students and push them to succeed. She uses sarcasm and humor daily, which the students love!

Mrs. Johnston holds students' expectations high, while maintaining a comfortable learning environment. She's dealt with some overwhelming issues this year from a few of her students with special needs, and I believe she deserves recognition for it.

Darcie puts in a ton of extra hours coaching girls basketball. Darcie is the perfect nomination for teacher of the Month!

    Dave Hinkel
    Science

Every time a student gets knocked down a few pegs, David Hinkel is there to build them back up.

Mr. Hinkle is great at what he does, in all he does. He has a great rapport with kids and a patience for kids that struggle with learning. He makes it fun for them and relates well with students.

Mr. Hinkle is a kid at heart and uses humor in the classroom to make sure students are engaged. They may not think he’s funny, but they respect him. He is fair, loves teaching, and is a great role model.

    Healy

    Kira Healy
    Math

Mrs. Healy does a fantastic job! She is constantly trying to come up with new ideas to help her students understand the material. She works diligently with the other teachers in her department to prepare assessments that are fair, balanced and evaluate students on a variety of levels.

Mrs. Healy teaches the SAT class and is the only math teacher to do so. She is continuously revamping the curriculum to meet the variety of strengths and weaknesses that her students bring to this class.

Mrs. Healy works hard to make connections with all of her students and learn something about them outside of school. MHS is lucky to have Mrs. Healy! :)
