    Course Expectations, Goals & Routines

    English 10

     

    Mrs. Sonnenberg’s Expectations

     

    Welcome!  I am pleased to have you in my class this trimester.  Here are a few basic expectations that students from all my classes should meet.  I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation. 

     

    Class Expectations:

    Ø      Come to class with a positive attitude.

    Ø      Come to class prepared with your books, notebook, paper, and pen/pencil.

    Ø      Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.

    Ø      Be respectful at all times.

    Ø      Do not sleep in class.

    Ø      Turn in all homework at the beginning of the class period. No late work will be accepted.

    Ø      Remain in your assigned seat until the bell rings.  Lining up at the door is not allowed for any reason.

    Ø      Be responsible for missed assignments when ill or on a field trip.

    Ø      Do not eat in class.

     

    Please make sure that you are prepared for the entire semester.  Here is the supply list of items that are necessary for class.

     

    Ø      Folder or Binder

    Ø      Pens/ Black or Blue

    Ø      Pencils

    Ø      Paper/Notebook

     

    All class work will be graded on the following standard grading scale.

     

    Ø      90-100 A/A-

    Ø      89-80 B/B-

    Ø      79-70 C/C-

    Ø      69-60 D/D-

    Ø      59-0 F

     

    This class is designed to ensure academic success.  Students are to make sure they participate in class and turn in all assignments.  Tests, papers, and quizzes play an important part in the class.  Students will have a quiz or test every Friday. 

     

     
    Course Description
     
    ENGLISH 10 A & B
    English 10, an integrated English course based on Indiana’s Academic Standards for English/Language Arts in Grade 10, is a study of language, literature, composition, and oral communication with a focus on exploring universal themes across a wide variety of genres. Students use literary interpretation, analysis, comparisons, and evaluation to read and respond to representative works of historical or cultural significance appropriate for Grade 10 in classic and contemporary literature balanced with nonfiction. Students write responses to literature, expository and persuasive compositions, research reports, business letters, and technical documents. Students deliver grade-appropriate oral presentations and access, analyze, and evaluate online information.
    · Recommended Grade Level: 10
    · Recommended Prerequisites: English 9 or teacher recommendation
    · Credits: 2 trimester course for 2 credits
    · Fulfills an English/Language Arts requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas
    · A Career Academic Sequence or Flex Credit course
