    Course Expectations, Goals & Routines

    1.  Students must bring their book, notebook, folder, pen/pencil to class every day.  No locker passes will be given.
    2.  Students must complete work on time.  No late work will be accepted. 
    3.  Students need to find out what they missed if they were absent by checking the website, emailing me, or asking me when they return to school.  Students are responsible for all the material - even things we cover if they are absent. 
    4.  Students must be in their seats when the bell rings, or they will be considered tardy.
    5.  Copying work from another student results in a zero for both students.  Also, students may not work on homework for another class.
    6.  This is a classroom, not a cafeteria or spa.  Please, no food, drinks, makeup, lotion, or combs in the classroom. 
     
     
    Course Description
     
    English 11, an integrated English course based on Indiana’s Academic Standards for English/Language Arts in Grade 11, is a skills-based study of American literature produced from the early Colonial period through the present day.  Students in this course will be exposed to a variety of genres, including the short story, poetry, drama, folk tales, and non-fiction pieces. Works by members of various cultural and ethnic minorities, including Native Americans and African-Americans, are included in the syllabus to provide a comprehensive study of the American experience through literature.  Written and oral exercises require students to analyze and explain how culture and literature are interconnected and distinctly American. Students write and deliver grade-appropriate multimedia presentations and access, analyze, and evaluate online information.
    ·         Recommended Grade Level:   11
    ·         Recommended Prerequisites: English 9 and English 10 or  teacher recommendation 
    ·         Credits: 2 trimester course for 2 credits
    ·         Fulfills an English/Language Arts requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas
    ·         A Career Academic Sequence or Flex Credit course
