  •  Support the Merrillville Community School Corporation
     .
On behalf of the 6700 students and 800 staff members of the Merrillville Community Schools,    I welcome you to our school corporation's website. The Pirate Community is rich in diversity which has added to the outstanding educational environment that is evident in every one of our 8 schools (5 Elementary, 1 Intermediate, 1 Middle, and 1 High School).

We are the recipient of several State and National awards:

    • Merrillville High School: International Center for Leadership in Education Model School,  Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSBOC) Model School, and US News and World Reports Bronze Medalist
    • Fieler Elementary and Pierce Middle Schools:  PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) Indiana pilot and Model Schools
    • Salk Elementary: 2013 US Department of Education Blue Ribbon School, Title 1 Distinguished School, and COSBOC model school

Merrillville High School is the only diverse high school of its size in Indiana who has been graded an "A" continuously for the last three years.

Our curriculum is rich in its rigor regardless of grade or content area.  Balanced Literacy, English/Language Arts, Inquiry Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, ISTEM courses (Science, Math, and Technology), Industrial Technology, Business, Physical Education and Health, World Languages, Honors and  Advanced  Placement courses, all work together with our rich co and extra curricular activities to provide a well-rounded education to both our collegiate and non-collegiate bound students.  Our graduation rate of over 93% and high percentages of students passing the State's Accountability Tests (ISTEP+ and ECA) allow bright futures for our students.

Merrillville’s business and community partnerships provide opportunities for our students to gain real life work internship experiences in local health care facilities, car dealerships, attorney offices, and the like. Each year we celebrate our student interns alongside those that have mentored our students.  We are also proud of the large number of awards and scholarships that graduating classes after graduating class receive to the Armed Services and Universities across the country.

We invite you to be part of the Merrillville Community Schools Family and learn even more about The Merrillville Advantage.
