        Merrillville Parents and Guardians,

Merrillville Intermediate School is in the process of creating a library “makerspace”.  What is a makerspace?  In simple terms, it is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that students can engage in learning experiences that allow them to be engaged in critical thinking and problem solving. Also, the makerspace area brings STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) to life!  For example, within the makerspace area our students will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build, and collaborate.  Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources.  We are excited to bring this opportunity to our students, but in order to have a space that is useful, we are in need of several items to be donated to the space.

Merrillville Intermediate School fosters a learning atmosphere in which diversity is celebrated.  This partnership of students, staff, parents, and community provides an education based on essential skills, inspires excellence in academics and in the arts, and nurtures positive social interactions.  Through this partnership students become creative and self-reliant lifetime learners who exhibit civic responsibility.
